Helping a friend

Audience at campmeeting in Niaguis
While living in Niaguis we were privileged to work with local church leadership and lay members to host one of the first campmeetings Senegal at the Dispensaire Adventiste where we were working at the time. One of the key note presenters at this campmeeting was Sister Deborah Ndione. We had talked with Sister Deborah in passing before, but this campmeeting really showed us her dedication to teaching. She did several hands on lectures on massage and hydrotherapy. Showing the attendees how do each of the things she was explaining from the front.

In talking more in depth with Sister Deborah we learned that she had bought land outside Dakar, built a small house and was hoping to develop a school on her land in time. We had the privilege to visit her place a few times before leaving Senegal to move to Lebanon. We were impressed by what she was doing with very little. Much of the time Sister Deborah has been forced to live in Dakar working as an English teacher to make money to survive and then to make additions to her property in Mbirdiam.

When we were thinking and praying about moving back to Senegal while still in Lebanon we were reminded of Sister Deborah and the work she was doing in Senegal. She was the inspiration for us to take classes to get our ESL teaching certificates. When we reached out to her and mentioned we might be moving back to Senegal she kindly offered her house for us to stay in while we work out the details for a long term residence.

The building that is being remodeled
Sister Deborah longs to retire to her land and start a school full time. She has been forced to put off her passion for several years as money has not always been available to build the various buildings needed on her property. Since come to Senegal we have helped her with some funds to start building a dormitory on the property. Her dream is to use the dormitory to provide housing for campmeetings, summer camps, health retreats, visiting groups, etc. There will be two dorm rooms, two bathrooms, and a classroom. The first floor has been designed so that as more funding is available a small apartment can be added to the second floor to provide further housing for those willing to help with the project.

Our funds are tight at the moment and we are not able to help with much more than what we have
helped with so far for this exciting project in Mbirdiam. This is why we have started a Go Fund Me project to help Sister Deborah raise the necessary funds to finish the dorm. We look forward to seeing the building finished and to work alongside Sister Deborah to help her accomplish the the projects God has been calling her to do.

Thanks for your prayers for this project. Maybe one day you can come and spend some time in this very building, we are praying and raising money for. https://www.gofundme.com/dormitory-in-mbirdiam-senegal
